Met Sac mentor celebration...
Andrew has been quite busy getting the Met Sacramento mentor celebration arranged. Last night he hosted a thank you party for 250 people (kids, parents, mentors, and advisors) and it was fabulous! We will post pictures later. Meanwhile, you can listed to a 20-minute interview that Andrew arranged, and was aired on Insight, the local NPR station show - click on "Listen to Archive" and either listen to the whole hour show, or scoot ahead about 15 minutes for the Met Sacramento Internship segment. . . Happy listening!

2nd Saturday & Yolo sitings
"On the second Saturday of each month, galleries in Sacramento, California stay open for a Sacramento Art Walk late into the evening, allowing people to walk from gallery to gallery, viewing, experiencing and discovering local art galleries and meeting artists."
some of the art is good, most is dismissible, but it's not really about the art, and more about wandering 'midtown' with friends. . . here's some art, Andrew next to an ex-basketball player running for mayor, and a not-so flattering picture of us with Seth and Shelby. . .

As the Spring winds down and Summer draws closer, the migratory birds have left and arrived. In the Yolo Causeway, we observed a male bittern attracting a mate with a funky call that involved smacking his bill together and making whooping sounds by whipping its neck back and forth.
Some yellow-headed blackbirds (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus):

Sacramento MS Walk 2008
Leigh and I set out on Sunday for the Sacramento MS Walk. Thanks to all of you who donated; we raised nearly $1500, and all together the Met School raised over $7500!
Here are a few pics. . . Kim, our school's office manager extraordinaire, who was diagnosed last year with MS, was so happy she danced in front of the state capital building to bagpipe music (now that's not something that you see everyday! As for what Andrew and Allen did, well most people wouldn't call that Dancing. . .
As 7 seconds says "If we can Walk together, why can't we Rock together?"
The Needlefolk's Visit
Mike, Sue, Jess, and Dylan visited us in Davis at the end of April. We had so much fun with them here and they had five very packed days - two in San Francisco (Exploratorium, Cable Cars, Cable Car museum...), one in Sacramento (train museum, radio station, capitol building), and two in Davis (Raptor Center, Rocknasium, Yolo, hiking in Winters). We celebrated Sue's birthday at Cattlemens of course! Here are some pictures from their stay:
At the Raptor Center, we watched the bird-keepers catch and hood a red-tailed hawk:
