Cruz

In honor of Presidents' Day, we took advantage of a rare 2-day weekend (for us) and drove to Santa Cruz to visit Caitlin and Wes. En route, we could not resist a visit to the "reserve fleet" to try to spot some deteriorating Liberty Ships. While doing so, we couldn't resist the urge to do a little birding and spotted our first canvasback ducks.


In Santa Cruz, Wes and Caitlin took us site-seeing. The coast is gorgeous and clearly there is great surfing for both beginners and experts, because there were at least 150 people donning wetsuits in the surf.


Parts of the oceanfront reminded us of Coney Island with a few rollercoasters and a pier. . .



From the pier, we saw quite a nice variety of wildlife:




Finally, Andrew and I went on a nice walk on the shore before heading back to the Valley... We tried to stay clear of mountain lions as warned.
