NJ to VA

We awoke at 5:45AM, said goodbye to the Needle'rents who were on their way to the gym. We got on the road by 7:15 in an attempt to beat the winter snowstorm forecasted for the area later on in the afternoon. There was no sign of bad weather until we arrived near Harristown PA. So, why not take a break - we visited the Selter's Lebanon Bologna factory store. You can see in the photo - it started to snow a bit and we took about 7 minutes off the road to see the factory and make a few purchases. In the photo above you can see our 'new' car - we traded the Civic with Mike and Sue for their CRV. Thanks to Brian and Needle-mom for helping us find our way to Seltzer's. We continued on our drive South, through rain and sleet. We arrived in Bristol VA (5 miles from TN) around 7:30, got a hotel room (thanks Brian for your internet help again!), and went out for dinner - we even found a Japanese restaurant!

[approximately 606 miles]

wait. you are driving an SUV?! can i still talk to you... anyway, you are the second (set of) people that i know with CRV...

also, this bologna kind of makes me throw-upy, but you know my feelings about big ol' sausages.

And the internet help you get reminds me of once last spring when i was on the road in France. I had made a reservation (and prepaid) for a hotel from my previous hotel. I knew where it was GENERALLY but hadn't written anything specific down...so I called Eric (yes from France, thank god for cheap european buy as you go cell phones) and he looked it up on the internet. honestly, what would we do/did we without cell phones and the internets????

yes, i know, we got the SUV. . . but it is getting almost 31mpg on the highways - not as good as the Civic, but certainly not hurrendous. We are thinking it will be better on trips to Tahoe (in snowy weather) and trips to the Sierras (on gravel and rocky roads). I know - I'm with you Daniela.

funny story about france... when andrew and i were in nicaragua, needlemom looked up the little town we were in on the web. She found out that there were a group of restaurants where hundreds of mariachi bands fought over tables to play. So we walked over and sure enough, it was fabulous - hundereds of Nicaraguan mariachis fighting to play live music for us. terrific! yes, the power of communication is incredible.

If there are going to be souvenirs from this trip, too, I call the six-foot meat stick.
