We awoke in Oklahoma City to fresh-baked bread (thanks Jim!) and a crisp morning. Jim took us on a quick tour of the city - the site of the Oklahoma bombing where a gorgeous memorial was created, downtown, and the new Bass Pro Shop. We think that NYC needs to look at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building memorial and replicate it for the World Trade Center site - it is peaceful, beautiful, and simple.
We headed out for Amarillo TX, en route we saw the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere and a beautiful wind farm. What is in Amarillo? Not much. BUT, we did go to a "fabulous" restaurant - The Big Texan Steak Ranch - where if you can manage to eat a 72-oz steak, it's free. We did not try to ingest this enormous meaty delight, but instead had more modest fare for dinch (lunch/dinner).
On our way out of Amarillo, we stopped by Cadillac Ranch and delighted in the graffiti'd Caddies and the large quantity of cow flop, which will no doubt stink up the car forever!
Again, we got back in the car - today was a heavy driving day - and headed out to Santa Fe, NM to stay with John and Lucy Draper. Luckily we crossed another time zone and we gained an extra hour. We arrived at 10:30PM. . . Good night!
Tomorrow we plan to visit the Georgia O'Keefe Museum and anything else you all may suggest.

You guys are covering some serious ground!
I have heard from many people how nice the Oklahoma City bombing memorial is. It amazes me that NYC, with likely even a huger pool of talent working on it, can't come up with anything half as fitting.
I remember the giant cross from my sister's cross-country video. Do you think Jesus gives credit for grand gestures of that sort?
The memorial is quite a nice thing. I believe that the designers for the WTC memorial should take some ideas from it. BUT, the rub is that the real estate where the WTC stood is very very valuable. So I think the struggles we are hearing about with decided how to memorialize 9-11 stem from the value of the property. It's tough.
Yes, big crosses and big Jesus's - we have seen a whole lot of these in the past 6 months. As a Jew, I honestly cannot speak to how Jesus credits his modern disciples. Anyone else qualified to answer this question?
