Veges...

Okay, so this area of CA has a 300 day growing season! (According to our source, RI has a 190 day season.) We put our plants in the ground in mid-March - quite unbelievable. This means more tomatoes and cucumbers - yummy!

ok. I hate you.

Official 'last date of frost' here in twin cities: May 21.

Um, hello? It's shocking there's any time to grow tomatoes at all. Have to start as seedlings and transplant!

On the other hand, it's nice that you guys finally get to plant in the ground, huh?

I wonder if the veges will survive the evil weather that hits this area june-august. we have planted about 9 cuke plants and about 11 tomato plants in total. we also planted camomile, basil, rosemary, thyme, basil, mint, and basil. man, they make hedges here out of rosemary - it's delicious to be walking along, scrape along a hedge, and smell the rosemary. quite delightful. yes, we are finally planting in the ground - after 6 years of a 'pot' garden. we have assumed that the soil is lead free, though we should really test that. There are no houses here older than 1980 though! The soil is pretty bad - it is like hardened clay. So we have to cut it with potting soil to soften it up a little. Will you start some veges indoors?
